Welcome to the first issue of Science over Politics! We’re an issues-oriented web site that aims to promote awareness of issues where science and politics are at odds, and to facilitate public comment on those issues. Do we have a bias in favor of science over politics? We tackle the toughest questions and never shy away from a truly simple, easy answer.
Our first issue is a no-brainer. It costs the government nothing and opens the door for research that should have been started in earnest years ago. The DEA's administrative law judge recommended doing it. Yet the DEA, somehow, some way, keeps coming up with mind-numbing, specious reasons for saying "No".
We invite you to read all about it here at Science over Politics. Then, when you feel appropriately informed, we encourage you to send a personal text message to President Obama on this issue. The DEA is run by presidential appointees, President Obama is an elected official, and we, as citizens, have a right to contact him in order to express our views on this matter. Simply click on the "Send a Msg" link on this page and start typing. But before you do that, make sure you understand the issue! We recommend following the links at the bottom of this page in order, left to right. We're not asking you to read every word, watch every video or follow every link, but you're sending a letter to the President of the United States. Please show some respect, be informed and express yourself clearly and thoughtfully.
As of May 1st, there are no additional statements by the DEA or DOJ, so it appears that the April 13 rejection by the DEA will be implemented. Politics has won, at least this round. The next round for this issue is probably in federal court, unfortunately. Please check back for updates, and don't forget to tell a friend to tell a friend. Thanks!
